My Approach

My Approach:

My approach at Sunflower Psychology Services is built around a few key principles:

  • Neurodiversity-affirming: Neurodiversity is welcomed and celebrated. Every person experiences the world in their own way — and those differences are respected.

  • Strengths-based: The focus is on what’s already working, building on abilities while supporting areas that are challenging. Each person’s strengths and needs are considered with care, and support is provided in ways that feel safe, validating, and empowering.

  • Collaborative: Work is done closely with parents, carers, educators, and workplaces, providing practical guidance and strategies to create supportive environments. The aim is to build confidence, understanding, and support for those walking alongside neurodivergent individuals.

  • Flexible communication & sensory-aware: Sessions are adapted to preferred communication styles — talking, writing, visuals, AAC, and more — and sensory needs are always considered. Adjustments to lighting, sound, and the environment create a calm, comfortable space for everyone.

  • Evidence-informed: Research-based strategies, tailored to individual strengths and needs, are used to help each person thrive.

Above all, my goal is to create a safe, supportive, and welcoming space where people can be their authentic selves, feel understood, embrace their strengths, and move forward with confidence — knowing they are supported every step of the way.

Why the Sunflower?

  • The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower (created in 2016 in the UK) shows someone may have a non-visible disability and might need extra support, understanding and time.

  • It has since become a globally recognised symbol, now used in many Australian workplaces and public spaces.

  • It raises awareness of hidden disabilities like autism, ADHD, and AuDHD, and encourages inclusion and empathy in everyday life.

  • My sunflower logo represents this practice’s commitment to creating spaces where neurodivergent individuals feel safe, understood, and empowered to thrive.
